Ashlyn Cianciolo

Ashlyn Cianciolo is a Nationally Certified Pilates Teacher who loves to help people find ease, efficiency, and joy in movement.

In 2019 Ashlyn began her Pilates teaching journey through a Mat Teacher Training at Maeva Movement. She then continued her comprehensive Pilates teacher training under the mentorship of Laurel Desmarais through a unique 4-year apprenticeship.

Throughout her apprenticeship and continuing after, Ashlyn teaches one-on-one and small group Pilates sessions at Maeva. She loves diving into the details in these sessions, but also recognized a need for accessible and affordable Pilates options - so she created On Demand with Ashlyn, movement education that meets you where you are. This platform allows her to offer her detail-oriented Pilates to you via follow-along videos and educational content. You can also join Ashlyn for a weekly Pilates Mat Class at the City of White House Recreation Center - Tuesdays at 5:00 pm and Wednesdays at noon!

Before beginning her Pilates career, Ashlyn earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Dance at the University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point. After moving to Nashville in 2015 she enjoyed the collaborative atmosphere of Nashville's dance scene. Ashlyn performed, produced, and choreographed with Blue Moves Modern Dance Company, Project Awake, and other freelance projects. Her background in dance taught her to look at movement through a critical lens - which helps her notice small details when teaching Pilates.

When she's not teaching, you can find Ashlyn knitting, making sourdough creations, or cuddling with her cat, Mia.

Pilates

Pilates is a system of exercise created by Joseph Pilates in the 1920’s, which he continued to develop as “contrology” until his death in 1967. Since then, Pilates practitioners have continued to honor and expand this system of movement using updated knowledge of kinesiology.

Ashlyn first took a Pilates class during a summer dance program in 2005. Then, she was re-introduced to Pilates during her time in college, taking a weekly Pilates Mat class each semester. But, it wasn’t until a few years later when she returned to Pilates following physical therapy for low back pain that she really fell in love with its magic.

Ashlyn’s approach to teaching Pilates and movement comes from the idea that our bodies are designed to move well. She loves to use Pilates to help people understand their bodies in motion. She does this by helping clients clarify their alignment, build new movement patterns, and move with both ease and precision. Pilates helps you move well and feel good.
